Hello, this is BlackGreenCo:)
Let's find out Spinal stenosis.
Spinal stenosis
1. What is spinal stenosis?
It is one of the most common degenerative spinal diseases that cause sudden back pain. The spinal canal or intervertebral formen, through which the nerves pass, is narrowed by degenerative changes, resulting in the compression of the nerves. Typical symptoms are back pain, leg numbness, etc., which is similar to back disc (HNP).
However, in the case of back disc (HNP), the symptoms may suddenly worsen, resulting in pain, but Spinal stenosis has the difference that bones, ligaments, discs, etc. due to aging over a long period of time and symptoms. Back disk (HNP) is common in people in their 20s and 30s, but spinal stenosis is much more common in middle-aged and older people.
Spinal canal is a pathway that protects the spinal cord that transmits sense from the whole body to the brain. The spinal canal narrows due to a variety of factors, stimulating the nerves, causing pain and abnormalities. Changes in the spine that occur as the spinal canal or intervertebral formen narrows can progress slowly from a young age in your 20s and 30s. And as aging progresses over 50s, degenerative changes in the spine occur, and the main symptoms are back pain and leg numbness.
The lumbar is made up of an intervertebral disc, which we commonly call a disk, and a facet Joint. The intervertebral disc undergoes degenerative changes due to aging, leading to retrogression of the back joint, which can also cause thickening of the back joint and the amber ligament, and the stenosis of the spinal canal located in the middle.
+Facet Joint: A structure that is located at the back and outside of the lumbar bone to bear the weight applied to the spine and play an important role in keeping the joints safe.
2. What's the cause of spinal stenosis?
A typical cause of spinal stenosis is aging, which is most often caused by degenerative changes. Or, from birth, if the spinal canal is narrow, it can also be caused by trauma or poor posture.
After middle age, many people take the symptoms of pain and discomfort all over the body for granted. If you continue to suffer from back pain, you usually think of back disc (HNP), but not all back pain causes back disc. Older and middle-aged people in their 50s and older are said to have more patients of spinal stenosis than back disc (HNP) patients.
Usually due to aging, degeneration that can occur naturally can be caused, so failure to correct the wrong lifestyle and posture at a young age can accelerate the regression at an earlier age and lead to spinal stenosis.
3. What are the symptoms of spinal stenosis?
- Back pain gets worse when you lean back.
- It hurts more when standing than sitting.
- It's hard to walk a little.
- I feel pain, numbness, and numbness in legs when walk.
- You can feel pain all over your leg.
- This is caused by aging and most symptoms appear after 50s.
The biggest inconvenience of this condition is back pain and leg numbness that is difficult to walk. With pain that is likely to burst into the buttocks, the legs can become weak and numb. It is characterized by severe pain before going to bed and after a long walk.
Because the size of the spinal canal depends on the posture, the symptoms usually worsen when you straighten or tilt your back, and lower your back to relieve the pain. Bend your back to make it relatively comfortable, so you have to lower your upper body. This could be the case for elderly people who round and bend their backs.
Back pain and stiffness of the back appear, can worsen in cold winter, and can be alleviated during hot packs. Also, the pain gets worse due to activity, and it's typical to get better when you rest.
4. What are some precautions against spinal stenosis?
- Back, lower body muscle strengthening exercises.
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Keep the right posture.
- Maintain and control normal weight
Spinal stenosis is often slow to appear over a long period of time, making it difficult to notice early on. Therefore, if you have suspected spinal stenosis, it is better to have a quick examination, and if you have chronic back pain, you should build muscles around your back through muscular exercise, core exercise, swimming, walking, etc. Strong core muscles can help relieve pain and prevent back bending forward.
BlackGreenCo helps you build a healthy body through these three methods:
The fascia relaxation, steady stretching, and muscle strengthening through proper exercise
